forward bound
For some five days they ran before a south-south-east wind,
out of sight of all lands and seeing neither fish nor gull.
Then they had a day when it rained hard till the afternoon.
Eustace lost two games of chess to Reepicheep
and began to get like his old and disagreeable self again.
Then Lucy looked out of the stern windows and said:
"Hullo! I do believe it's stopping. And what's that?"

Say hello September

summers spent, smoked out, sunbaked, beat.
school time!
Okay so I'm like a month late on the news, but I've been busy. Back in nyc means back to business, means I need to balance homework with trying to move into and renovate my new apartment. Because of my closet like room I've been spatially challenged, and somehow my dad convinced me to help him create my own loft bed that connects to the upper shelves of the closet. This turned in to a bed/bookcase/desk and ladder all made out of plywood (thank you Prince Lumber) that subsequently has needed to be primed, painted, and finished.
it is yet to be finished. Like I said, its a challenge. Add in all the awesomeness of NYC and new things (I had a birthday, moved . . .) et cetera et cetera, and its easy to forget a blog. Nice thing about blogs though, is its like this little reminder book for me, I get to look back and remind myself of websites I've discovered, things I liked, things of interest. When I dont blog it I usually just bookmark a website, and its lost to the unorganized 100s of bookmarks I've saved. But I need to mental note these, and then get back to painting, maybe some mirror hanging, and then hopefully my 2pg spread homework. Then my print design homework . . . experimenting with camera manual settings annnnddd I think thats it. For monday.

But in the meantime, this is awesome and makes me so happy to be doing typography this year:
watch it big + in HD if possible, the Typophile trailer is a pleasure to the senses, visually, texturally, and auditory stimulating. Typography, fuck yeah.
Typophile Film Festival 5 Opening Titles from Brent Barson on Vimeo.
While Im at it, Usman Haque, fuck yeah! Awesome interactive, display, digital multimedia designs, his firm Haque: Designs, is constantly creative and innovative, finding new ways to utilize today's technology. I cant explain and the image is much too small, check it out for yourself.
Once I finish painting and homework I also want to go shop,
I want a leather jacket and this ring:
but who knows when thats going to happen. That brings me to another thing I really need to do, get a job.
my mantra of right now is "get your shit together" and now if I am writing it into html permanancy online I really have to do it. Get it together that is, meaning get to work get to school (on time!) start getting groceries start looking for jobs stop spending money stop slouching slow down the smoking. And so on.
But then I listen to the mgmt/ratatat remix of kid cudi's "pursuit of happiness"
and I just wanna float and go be in the sun outside.
Goddamn. Ok work time, more sites/bookmarked shit later.

skulls
"Skulls"
by Noah Scalin (www.askulladay.com)
A compilation of skulls created by Noah using all sorts of different and creative mediums,
a few of my favorites from his book shown above
(hastily snapped at B&N as I am cheap and opted to look at the book while there instead of buying it)
His book and my own infatuation with skull images inspired my recent jewelery purchase:

on the rocks: remixed
your drink of choice can now be chilled sans dilution, no more watered-down whiskey due to the ephemeral qualities of ice.
Introducing ice "spheres," (critical to a good whiskey or scotch) where the minimized surface-area to volume ratio results in a much slower melting method.

first utilized in a famed Japan bar (discovered via latest issue of wired magazine), the practice has now his the masses and is available for purchase

the cheapest option is from the MoMA design store, a tray of two for just $16.

Resin
I am a huge fan of leggings.

Leggings of all kinds: black, sparkly, gold, striped, even leopard spotted and fake-denim.

But a new brand of jeans by Paper Denim & Cloth designer Chris Gilbert has stolen my love of leggings. The brand, "Resin" (hah) promises slim cuts for guys and girls as well as affordable prices.

love it
even better:
lovely packaging
(this isn't their finest example of package design nor is it an executed design,
but it's amusing to anyone who's ever used those exact containers for their own stashing purposes . . .)

die for it
thedieline.com

Showcases all sorts of package design, including this new idea inspired by Obama's future regulations on tobacco media and marketing.

“Our marketing advice to cigarette companies in the new heavily regulated era is to fully accept the new aggressive anti-smoking restrictions and wallow in the government’s apocalyptic health warnings. Don’t make excuses or dance around the stepped-up marketing regulations, just transform the whole cigarette pack into a three dimensional warning label.”
